Net Metering
Net Metering, or Net Energy Metering (NEM) is a program that helps measure the amount of energy that you produce, use, and send back to the grid. In return for the energy your system generates, you gain credits that you can pull from when you’re not producing electricity. This allows you to keep your bill the same every month, and save money in the process.
Solar Power vs Traditional Energy
The way you currently get power through your utility company is very expensive. With outdated infrastructure, your electricity goes through many different substations to get to your home, and each one tacks on their own fees. These fees are rising constantly as states work to meet clean energy mandates. By the time the electricity reaches your home, you’re paying nearly 4x what it costs to produce. With solar, you produce your own energy at a fraction of the cost.
State and Federal Incentives
The United States is now required to become 100% carbon pollution-free by the year 2030. To help speed this process, the U.S. and many states are incentivizing renewable energy production. As of now, the federal government is offering a tax credit of up to 30% for homes and businesses that go solar. This includes any costs related in the project such as roofing, tree trimming, and the solar panels themselves. Each state offers their own incentives such as SRECs, rebates, grants, additional tax credits, and many states are accepting PPA and leasing options for solar as well.
